Cancer module

Skin Cancer · Melanoma

Dermoscopy + total-body imaging for melanoma, BCC, SCC detection.

Reporting system
AJCC 8th (melanoma) / NMSC TNM
Imaging modalities
  • Dermoscopy
  • Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  • Total-Body Photography
  • Histopathology
Key findings OCTON surfaces
  • ABCDE positive lesion (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter > 6 mm, Evolution)
  • Atypical-network or chaotic dermoscopic pattern
  • Ulceration / bleeding nodule
  • Multiple atypical naevi (FAMM phenotype)
  • Pearly border with telangiectasia (BCC) / keratinizing nodule (SCC)
Evidence base
  • USPSTF 2023 — insufficient evidence for population screening; high-risk surveillance recommended
  • NCCN Melanoma v2.2025
  • BMJ 2024;385:e075454 — dermoscopy reduces unnecessary biopsies
